A Professional Review is the last stage leading to Chartered Membership for most candidates. The main purpose of this review is to know whether you have the necessary knowledge and expertise required in three main areas:

After passing your assessment, you will have the status MCIOB and will become a Chartered Member.

Necessary steps for the CIOB Professional Review:

1.   Academic and Experience requirements: your application will only be taken into account if you satisfy the academic eligibility requirements, and you have a minimum of 3 years of related work experience (5 years if not having an honors degree in a built environment). For academic eligibility, you need to have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

2.   Membership: As per the CIOB recommendation, you become a non-chartered member (Applicant). An applicant has to create an account and apply for membership if you don’t have an account.

3.   Download the Professional Review: Download the application form to complete it with details.

4.   Guidance notes: among the supporting documents that you submit, you will have to read the guidance notes lying in the application form. These will describe what you have to send with your application like an updated CV and CPD certificates.

5.   Verification: you must have an endorsement from your line manager and your clients. More details are in your support materials.

Requirements for the Professional Review:

A competency review can be used to know whether you are skilled, knowledgeable, and have the behavior to do the work of a qualified Chartered Builder or Chartered Construction Manager. The competencies developed by CIOB members are to apply across different disciplines within the industry. The competencies are under the below-given categories:

·        Occupational Competence

·        Commitment to Professionalism

Assessors will consider sensible and realistic choices showing the necessary skills for the role. The choices that are listed in your application must be examples of your judgment or work.

Guidelines to prepare your competency report for CIOB Professional Review

If you follow the below-given tips, you will write an excellent CIOB Professional Review report:

Include clear, specific, and detailed examples of your practice to show the competencies.

Don’t forget to use ‘I attained’ for the description of your experience.

You can discuss the plus and negative points of your decisions after each example. You have to explain you did so.

Those who submit superior applications will think deeply about their practice and show they will approach future responsibilities differently.

Where possible, use paragraphs and sentences.

Prove and explain your competencies with all available space.
