Professional
Engineers Ontario Provision Licence:
A provision licence is given to those
applicants for a professional engineer (P.Eng) licence who fulfil all of PEO’s
licensing requirements but the minimum 12 months of verifiable and acceptable
engineering experience in a Canadian jurisdiction. This work experience must be
under the supervision of a professional engineer who has a licence in the
jurisdiction in which the work was taken on.
To be eligible for a provisional licence, a
P.Eng. licence candidate must have:

Fulfilled PEO’s academic
requirements for licence
·
Passed PEO’s National
Professional Practice Examination
·
Showed to PEO’s
satisfaction a minimum of 36 months of acceptable and verifiable engineering
experience that is outside of Canada
Provisional
licence conditions:
As per section 44.1(2) of Regulation
941/1990: The below-given conditions apply to every provisional licence:

The provisional licence is
valid for 12 months from the issuance date. You can get it renewed once for up
to 12 months if the Registrar has the opinion that renewal is a must to make
the applicant capable of acquiring the experience needed by paragraph 4 of
subsection 33 (1).

The holder of the
provisional licence is can work as a professional engineer only under the
supervision of a professional engineer. They shall not issue a final drawing,
plan, specification, report or another document unless the supervising
professional engineer also signs and dates it and affixes their seal to it.
A provisional licence gives authority to
its holder to work as a professional engineer in Ontario only under the
supervision of a professional engineer who has a licence in the Ontario
province.
How
to achieve a provisional licence?
If you fulfil the eligibility requirements
for a provisional licence and want to achieve one, you need to request one by
writing to the PEO Ontario
authority. Your written request must have your full name, your PEO file number
and your signature.
You hold the responsibility to make sure
that PEO has your current experience record on file and your referee response
forms. If PEO doesn’t have a current and complete detailed engineering
experience record, provide one with your request for a provisional licence.
Professional Engineers Ontario may need you to attend an Experience
Requirements Committee interview before issuing you a provisional licence.
After being approved for a provisional
licence, you will get an invoice for the provisional licence registration fee
of $339 ($300 + HST).
Professional Engineers Ontario may provide
those applicants with provisional licences who have completed all the
requirements for a licence as a professional engineer aside from the 12 months
of acceptable engineering experience in a Canadian jurisdiction under the
supervision of a professional engineer who is licensed.
This licence has 12-month validity from the
date of issuance and may be renewed for an extra 12 months only under special
circumstances as the Registrar determines.
The holder of this licence can practise
professional engineering providing that they work under the supervision of a
professional engineer and shall not issue a final drawing, report, plan,
specification or another document unless the supervising professional engineer
also signs and dates it and affixes their seal to it.
