APEGS NPPE Examination Format

What is NPPE?

The full form of NPPE is the National Professional Practice Exam, which is an exam that tests knowledge of Canadian law, professionalism, and ethics. You, as a candidate, have to pass the professional practice exam to be eligible to take up responsibility for professional engineering or geoscience work. You will be provided with a period of 2 and a half hours to complete the exam, and you have to attain 65% marks to pass this exam.

Eligibility criteria for NPPE:

There are some criteria that you need to satisfy to apply for PPE. These eligibility criteria are:

You need to be a member of the Engineering/Geoscience Licensee applicant who has taken permission to write the exam.

CPD recording compliance is compulsory for a previous year member.

Limit of attempts to write the NPPE:

There is a limit of 4 attempts to write the NPPE. If you fail in the fourth attempt, you have to wait for one year and complete a compulsory Remediation Plan before being allowed to register for a 5th attempt. APEGS staff will notify you with instructions regarding a Remediation Plan in case you are not successful on your fourth attempt.

To be kept in mind: Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, exam test centers are closed, and exams are being conducted remotely with virtual proctoring.

·        Ethics (17 to 21 questions)

·        Professional Practice (27 to 32 questions)

·        Law for Professional Practice (23 to 28 questions)

·        Professional Law (7 to 10 questions)

·        Regulation of Member & Discipline Processes (7 to 10 questions)
