Assessment of Engineers Australia Competencies For Membership

 Attaining Engineers Australia membership requires you to fulfill some requirements. However, if you don’t fulfill them, you can still attain membership. For that, you need to complete an assessment of Engineers Australia competencies before you apply for membership. This evaluation is also called an entry-to-practice assessment. You are required to go through an assessment providing that you have:

·        Australian engineering qualifications that are not recognized or accredited by Engineers Australia

·        Engineering qualifications from overseas that are not accredited by Engineers Australia or

·        Qualifications in fields that are related to engineering which are not accredited by Engineers Australia but you hold post-graduate engineering qualifications and substantial engineering work experience

What does this assessment consist of?

You have to pass a comprehensive competency assessment of your qualifications and skills. Your eligibility will be evaluated across three major areas:

·        Knowledge base: you have appropriate engineering foundation knowledge. 

·        Professional attributes

·        Engineering ability: you are capable of applying your knowledge to issues and situations within your occupational category.

How to apply for the assessment of Engineers Australia competencies:

For application, you will be required to create an account in the EA member portal. Apart from that, you will also need the following documents in a format you can upload with your assessment application:

1.   Colour-scanned copy of a primary piece of identification. A passport photo page, present driving license, or copy of your birth certificate is a must.

2.   A passport-sized photo

3.   Proof of your English language competency if not fulfilling the exempt criteria

4.   Copies of all your qualifications which include degree certificate (testamur)

5.   Academic transcripts that include the original and an English language translation (if applicable)

6.   Assessment requirements as given below

Requirements for the assessment of Engineers Australia competencies:

Resume or CV:

Give a current resume or CV covering your engineering employment from undergraduate studies to date. Your resume mustn’t be more than three pages, and it must cover a minimum of the last three years.

If you are a graduate candidate, you need to include any industry placement you completed as part of your studies.

You need to include the following for all engineering roles you had:

·        Name, location, and contact details of your employer

·        Title of the position you had and details of your role and responsibilities

·        Dates of your employment in the role

Career episodes:

To be assessed, you will also be required to provide written accounts of three career episodes and a summary statement.

 Assessment outcome:

Your assessment of EA competencies will be reviewed by competent Engineers Australia assessors. An assessment consumes nearly four weeks, but it may also take a much longer time. You should wait to be contacted by Engineers Australia.

You will get a notification that your assessment of Engineers Australia competencies has been completed through your portal account. If you have passed your evaluation, you can apply for membership straight away through your portal account.

On the other hand, if you don’t pass the competency assessment, you can apply for a review within three months or an appeal within six months. Fees apply for appeal and review.

Fees:

The fee for an entry to practice competency assessment or assessment of Engineers Australia competencies is $785.

You will also be required to pay an extra fee for membership when you apply.
