UK-SPEC Professional Registration Process Steps
UK-SPEC professional registration is open to all practicing engineers and technicians who can demonstrate the necessary standard of competence and commitment for the status they have chosen to apply for.
The eligibility criteria for EngTech, IEng,
and CEng are in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence. No
matter what professional title you choose for professional registration the
following are the steps you need to follow.
1.
Join
a professional engineering institution:
The first thing for you to do is to join a
professional engineering institution that must be licensed to evaluate
candidates for professional engineering registration.
Another option for you is to choose to join
a Professional Affiliate of the Engineering Council. Some of these
organizations have agreements to register their members by means of a licensed
institution. One of the biggest benefits of joining is the support that the
institution provides to help you in preparing for registration.
2.
Let
the institution know your aim for a professional title:
Tell your institution that you have the
desire to apply for professional registration with the Engineering Council.
Their staff will see your qualifications, training, and work experience. After
that, they will advise you which title you deserve. Besides that, they will
also let you know if any extra learning or experience is required. Some of them
will also be able to help you find a mentor.
3.
Keep
track of your professional development:
For the attainment and maintenance of your
professional registration with the Engineering Council, you have to record your
professional development. It will provide proof of your qualifications,
activities, and experience. Thus, it will be easy for you to apply for your
chosen title.
4.
Assessment:
the professional review:
The UK-SPEC
Engineering Council assessment process for registration is known as the
professional review. It starts with a written application, which may vary
according to the requirements of your institution. Your institution will give
you everything you need to know. For IEng and CEng registration, there is also
a professional review interview.
When your institution has verified that you
satisfy the criteria, it will submit a registration form to the Engineering
Council on your behalf.
5.
Certification:
After receiving your registration form from
your institution, the Engineering Council will verify and process your
application and you will be added to the national register. It usually consumes
between one to three weeks. After that, you will get your registration pack,
including a certificate showing your new title. You can then start using your
post-nominal letters to show your professional status.
At this time, you can also download the
related registrant logo for use on your business cards, stationery, and email
signature.
Chartership
eligibility criteria:
The following are the UK-SPEC Chartered Engineer
eligibility criteria:
A Bachelor’s degree, with Honours, in
engineering or technology, recognized for CEng, and an appropriate and
recognized Master’s degree or Engineering Doctorate (EngD), or appropriate
further learning to Master’s level
A recognized integrated MEng degree
To
be kept in mind: If you earned academic
qualifications which, at the time you earned them, were accredited as the
exemplifying qualifications for CEng, these are still considered to be so.
Holding the exemplifying qualifications
means that you are automatically eligible for interim registration.
You can even become a Chartered Engineer
without these academic qualifications. To know more about this, contact a
UK-SPEC competency report writing expert.
