Who is eligible for the MIMMM grade?

The Member grade (MIMMM) comes with a recognition of an individual’s professional knowledge, experience and understanding in a technical discipline that is related to the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining.

It is expected from MIMMM grade holders to exercise independent judgement in both practical experience and the application of engineering or environmental or scientific principles. They must use innovation in technical matters that are related to materials and natural resources in one or more of the below-listed items:

·        Extraction,

·        Exploration,

·        Forming,

·        Processing,

·        Application,

·        Selection,

·        Research,

·        Development,

·        Reuse,

·        Manufacturing,

·        Repurposing and

·        Recycling

Eligibility criteria:

·        To be eligible for the MIMMM grade, you need to have the minimum of a bachelor’s degree, which can be BEng, BSc, BTech, BSc(Eng) and so on or equivalent RQF Level 6/SCQF Level 9/10 qualification in a related engineering, technology, science or environmental subject.

·        You need to have at least 4 years of relevant work experience that include the time you spend completing a Ph.D. or EngD.

Those who don’t have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent but have related working experience may be considered for the Member grade on the basis of their work-based learning. You should contact the authority to know further about it if you are planning to become eligible through this route.

Otherwise, those unable to fulfill these criteria may choose to apply for the grade of Associate (AIMMM).

Apart from the general benefits that are related to other grades, members can have the following benefits:

1.   You can use the post-nominal letters ‘MIMMM’.

2.   This membership will enable you to have free entry to IOM3’s Introduction to Professional Registration workshop.

3.   It will enable you to apply for Interim Professional Registration if look to be eligible in due course to apply for qualification as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Engineering Council.

4.   This grade will allow you to have free entry to IOM’s Professional Registration Workshops.

5.   You will have a mentor to support your application for professional registration.

6.   By means of this grade, you can have free entry to IOM3’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop.

7.   It will enable you to have free entry to IOM3’s Fellowship workshop.

8.   Attaining this title will let you apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) card for which you must pass the related CITB Health and Safety and Environment Test or an acceptable alternative.

9.   By virtue of the MIMMM grade, you can apply for recognition with Qualified for Minerals Reporting (QMR) accreditation under the terms of the CRIRSCO templated Codes of Reporting and be placed to IOM3’s register, from which practitioner credential due diligence checks can be made by the public.

Professional registration:

If you are planning to apply for professional registration as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Scientist (CSci), you have to hold the MIMMM or FIMMM (Fellow) grade when you apply.
