APEGS CBA For Work Experience Reporting
Before you are eligible to apply for your APEGS professional licence, it’s a must for you to have four years of engineering work experience or geoscience work experience evaluated by the Experience Review Committee.
For eligibility, you need to be registered with
APEGS as an
engineering-in-training or geoscience-in-training, or a member-in-training applicant
who has been given the option of work experience reporting to try and get
confirmatory exams waived.
What
is APEGS CBA?
The Association of Professional Engineers
and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan utilizes a competency-based assessment (CBA)
system to assess the work experience of candidates. Aside from providing
validated examples to demonstrate each of the competencies, it’s a must for you
to have a minimum of four years of work experience validated in the system.
How
to report in the online CBA system?
·
Reach
//competencyassessment.ca.
·
Choose the ‘Applications’
section.
·
Adhere to the instructions
that will appear on the screen
·
Make an account by virtue
of your APEGS Registration/Application number as your User ID.
·
Choose, as your
jurisdiction, ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of
Saskatchewan’.
·
You will get a mail
notification on the acceptance of your account. This task may consume up to 5
business days. These accounts get acceptance manually, 8:00 to 5:00 (Monday to
Friday).
·
Reach the CBA system by
choosing ‘I am a registered user and would like to access the Competency
Assessment System’.
·
Start providing your
information adhering to the instructions that appear on the screen. Your educational
information doesn’t show in the CBA system at this time.
·
If facing any issues with
the CBA system, you should contact APEGS.
On the acceptance of your experience, you
will get the result via mail. If you don’t pass the first time, the authority
will provide you with the opportunity to redo any competencies that did satisfy
the requirements.
You need to get your assessment result
within 6 to 8 weeks after the completion of all validations. If the authority
finds your validators unacceptable, it will notify you and the process of
validation will have to be redone.
To
be kept in mind: From January 1, 2023,
APEGS adopted a new policy on acceptable validators in the competence
assessment system.
All Saskatchewan’s engineering or
geoscience work must be performed or supervised by a licensed
engineer/geoscientist or equivalent.
Paper-based
reporting:
If you have already started doing the task
of APEGS work experience
reporting in the old paper-based system, you can complete your reporting in
that system or, ideally, move to the competency-based assessment (CBA) system.
If you have not already begun your experience reporting, use the online CBA
system.
You should get your evaluation result
within a period of 6 to 8 weeks after the submission of your report. If there
are any errors or omissions in the report, the authority will let you know
about them. After that, the report will have to be submitted again.
